Can I use rotisserie chicken? How long do I cook it for with all the fixings including carrots, celery and onion.
Yes, you could, I would cook it long enough for the carrots to get soft. You want the chicken to soak up the liquid too.
This is on my keepers list, we’ve had it many times and we thoroughly enjoy it. I’m wondering if I put in baby potatoes cut in half, if it will need extra liquid and extra time to cook?
I would think that would be just fine, if you feel like it does you could always add a little more broth or water. Glad to hear you like the recipe!
Hi, Could I use a 7 Qt Crock pot? I don’t have anything smaller.
John
I think that would be fine, but it may cook much quicker, so just pay attention to that, since it will have more room in the bottom of the crock pot.
This chicken and gravy recipe is a perfect warm and comforting meal on these cold evenings. So simple and delicious! We served it over mashed potatoes, but I think it would be equally as good over rice.
YAY! I agree.. rice would be delicious too!!
This recipe is delicious! All of your recipes that I have tried are very good!
We are thrilled you are enjoying them!
How do I make my own cream of chicken soup to cut the salt?

I made this today it was so easy and absolutely delicious
I shared recipe with my daughter in law
Really tasty, and the whole family loved it! My only problem was that I had to use about 3 Tbsp of cornstarch to thicken it up to a gravy consistency. I’ll definitely make it again, but I’ll probably wait before adding the 1 cup of water to see if it needs it. Thank you for the recipe!
Beautiful tasty recipes!
I have fixed this recipe many, many times. It is on my keepers list. The only thing that I changed, is that I used 2% milk instead of water to help thicken the gravy. We love it! I serve it over mashed potatoes and have green beans and biscuits.
YAY! I am so glad this is such a hit! Love the changes you made!
I lost count of how many times I’ve made this. It’s definitely a favorite!
YAY!! We love it too!!
It is delicious and so simple! My whole family loves it. Thank you!
This recipe is so easy & delicious. It warms the soul. Comfort food at its finest.
We totally agree!
Hi! I love this recipe. I’ve made it a lot. But today I put seasoning salt in it. I meant to put just a little but a lot came out. How can I make it less salty? I added a little more water but I don’t want it to be too runny I like the gravy. This is a meal my whole family loves. So I need to thank you for this!
This is what I found: It won’t reduce the sodium level of your dish, but adding an acidic ingredient, such as lemon juice, vinegar, or even a tomato product, can neutralize the saltiness of a dish. Start with a dash or a squeeze, stir well to combine, and give it a taste before adding any more.
So maybe a little vinegar.
Can I cook this in a Dutch oven in the oven? What temp how long?
LOVE this recipe! Would you by chance have your own recipe for the Lipton Onion Soup Mix?
Thank you so much!
Yes, we sure do.. here you go: https://thesouthernladycooks.com/make-your-own-onion-soup-mix-2/
I have served this many times and everyone just enjoys it so much! My husband doesn’t care for chicken very much but boy does he eat this! Thanks for sharing!
Thrilled you enjoy this dish! We do too!
I added some diced onion, bell pepper, carrots, and celery and an ear of fresh corn. OMG!!! Perfect!!!
Love it, a lot easier to make instead of the chicken with the noodles don’t have time to do that all anymore, but this was easy and kids loved it.
Could I make something similar using a store bought rotisserie chicken. Sounds so good but we are just two very seniors and I am not able to take on many cooking chores much to my despair.
Thank you. Edith
You could easily use rotisserie chicken, just add it to the crock pot with all the other ingredients and let it cook until well combined and you feel the flavor is good.
Looks yummy, I’m going to try it. Years ago when I was a kid, after Thanksgiving and Christmas my grandmother used to add turkey pieces to the leftover gravy and we’d eat it over waffles.
The crock pot chicken and gravy was delicious. I am sure my family will be requesting this meal again.
I made this crockpot chicken and gravy one night when my son and his family came to visit for a few days. It was so delicious! Everyone loved it and it made a lot, we had some leftovers for the next day. This one is a keeper. Thank you for such great, old fashioned, great tasting recipes.
Hi! This recipe is a regular in this house! It’s so easy and so delicious! I was wondering what the nutrition info is
You can always use a nutrition app to find that information. We are just country cooks that share our recipes.
I made this recipe with the zero salt added broth and cream of chicken soup and it came out perfect and is so good over wide egg noodles.
So glad it was a hit!!
This one is a keeper! I made this today, exactly as written, and it was a mother’s day hit! My elderly mother and my grandchilden are all very picky with food. Thank you for a recipe I can count on they will eat.
I doubled the recipe but changed the water to 1-1/4 cups. I added carrots and peas also. It came out delicious. The family loved it. I served it with bisquits. Great recipe. Will be making this often.
This is my favorite kind of food. My daughter just sent the recipe to me. Can’t wait to try it. As a matter of fact I think I have all the ingredients at home right now. Signed up with intentions to receive more! Thank you ladies
Could half and half be substituted for the soup. Family member can’t do the soup. Thank u.
You can certainly try it, we make our own condensed soup and we do use cream: https://thesouthernladycooks.com/make-your-own-condensed-creamed-soups-for-recipes/
YUMMO!!! This is great!
I want to make it double, would I double everything??
I have never doubled it but I would think so.
I’m definitely going to try this tomorrow night sounds good and also easy
It’s a keeper!
Do you know if this can be saved as a frozen crockpot meal uncooked?
No, we rarely freeze food so I can’t advise. Thanks!
This recipe is absolutely delicious! Just mix everything together and you have a wonderful meal. Just follow the recipe. I added one teaspoon of Herb de Provence. It is my go to spice for everything. I served this over homemade mashed potatoes. Add a couple sides. This is a keeper. My husband loved it.
I am making this for the first time right now. Thank you for your great suggestion to use Herb de Provence. I too love it!
I really want to make this recipe. I don’t have a slow cooker. How can I make this a stove top dinner?
Do you know how many weight watchers points this counts for on the green plan? I may have missed it but didn’t notice how many points it is.
No, we don’t do weight watchers. Thanks!
This is in crock pot as I write. This will be my first time making. I do not have poultry spice and didn’t have time to make my own. Does this effect the flavor? I’m excited to try this tonight for dinner.
I always use the poultry seasoning so I can’t advise but I’m sure the dish will still be good! Thanks!
Could I double this recipe for a large family gathering?
Of course you can double it.
Love Poultry seasoning!
I made this tonight. Served with mashed potatoes & stuffing. I used frozen chicken breasts and cooked on low for7 hours. Everyone loved it, even the kids. Very easy too!
This looks so good! Can’t wait to try it. Just curious…does this freeze well?
I have never tried freezing it, but don’t see why it wouldn’t. Enjoy!
Will the cooking time be any different if I use chicken thighs instead?
I wouldn’t think that it would change the cooking time that much but I would watch it to make sure.
Great recipe the whole family loves it. Easy and comforting
Do you have to check the temp of the chicken after cooking 6-7 hours? I never cook with chicken…so kinda clueless.
No, it’s normally fallen apart and I just shred it.
So easy, and everyone really likes it. Thank you for sharing
Didn’t have the onion soup mix so I used a can of French onion soup. If it’s still too thin later after its done cooking then I’m going to add a cornstarch slurry to it. Can’t wait to give this recipe a try!
I made this for dinner last night and served it over brown rice. We had leftovers tonight and I served it over mashed potatoes. It was delicious on both counts! I will definitely be making it again!
So glad it was a hit!
Hello, so this is my first time making this recipe. I’m curious to know if the mixture is normal pretty watery to start and if it will thicken over the course of cooking? Or is there something I should do to it to help thicken it up? Please let me know
I only have a 6 qt crockpot, is that ok?
Yes, it should be fine, Gina.
Made this tonite since I had all the ingredients……delicious!! Served over mashed potatoes and peas! Just bought your 2019 digital magazine Bundle as well as the 2020 Spring issue……can’t wait to read them and try more recipes!!
Wonderful! Go glad you loved this recipe and thank you SOO much for your support of Front Porch Life Magazine. We hope you love it!
Anyway this can be made with frozen chicken breasts and just throw them in there with everything else ?
I’m sure it could, you would probably have to just cook it a little longer.
I made it with frozen chicken breasts and just cooked for 1 hour longer and it was fine. Just make sure you have a meat thermometer to check that it’s above 165 degrees!
Have everything for this. Making for dinner tonight. Cold Kansas day. Sounds good with mashed potatoes and southern green beans. . Thanks for sharing your recipe.
I have to tell you that ALL your recipes so far have been fabulous! You must have the same tastes as we do (ha, ha). They are not complicated and taste fantastic. Thank you so much for posting these — we have had a different one each night for the past two weeks! Keep them coming!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for the kind comment. We are so glad you are enjoying the recipes. It’s wonderful people like you that makes all the hard work worth it. Have a wonderful weekend.
I agree with you Judy, recipes are soooooooooooo good and love the crock pot thinking about getting one of those fast pot can’t think of the name of them but think they cook faster than crock, not sure.
Has anyone made this without the can of soup? Trying to avoid processed foods with lots of sodium.
You could probably use heavy cream and extra seasoning, mabye?
Simple and versatile…nicely done, ma’am.
I don’t see instructions for the flour. Do I whisk it in at the end?
It’s included in the first line of the instructions.
It looks like you whisk it into the soup mixture and pour it over the chicken.
I followed your advice and didn’t add any salt. This dish was great. My husband said it’s a keeper. Thank you!!
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Boy this looks good…. I have everything , so think I’ll make this today !!
Thank You for sharing all your yummy recipes………..
Absolute winner!! We may have this for Thanksgiving since it’s just the two of us. Thank you for another wonderful recipe.
