This is a really hearty dish and the perfect comfort food. It’s easy to make and comes together pretty quickly. If you have leftovers, they will reheat well, too. We feel that mashed potatoes are a must with this dish because the gravy is delicious.

CAN I HALF THIS RECIPE? MAKE IT FOR TWO?

Yes, you can make half of this recipe, and we are doing the work for you. Scroll down to the recipe card and find the ingredients for making this for two people. Many of our amazing followers only cook for a few people, and we want you to be able to enjoy this recipe.

🍽️MAKE IT A MEAL

We suggest adding some of these delicious side dishes! Here are four options. You can half any of these to make a smaller amount.

HEALTHY HACKS

Not a fan of store-bought onion soup mix, you can easily make your own. You can also use ground turkey in this recipe, I would suggest using the 85/15 or the 93/7 as both of those will hold together better.

GRAVY INGREDIENTS FOR TWO

I’ve been using your recipe for years and it is my husband’s favorite hamburger steak. I can’t remember if I left a review before, so I’m correcting that now! Five stars and beyond!!

The only change I made was to omit the salt due to my own dietary restrictions. I even make my own onion soup mix using no salt added bouillon. My husband adds a little salt to his serving. It works for us.

Thank you for your amazing recipe!5 stars

My husband has sodium restrictions so a nutritional label would
    really help.

  13. Can you use old fashioned oatmeal instead of the instant in the hamburger patty?

  14. Holy moly this was delicious! I got seconds.
A few things I tweeked: added half pound ground pork to the meat mixture as well as some worchestershire sauce; sautéed fresh sliced shrooms in a separate pan then once browned, added to the gravy along with a few drops of worchestershire sauce. Absolutely glorious5 stars

  19. So delicious! I tried this once and had to have it again less than 2 weeks later, even my 3&1/2 year old ate it! Found the second time it was better because I let my hamburger come to room temp before mixing, so it really incorporated the ingredients well. I’m from Nashville and so is my best friend but he’s been in Hawaii for a year and coming back in October. I have told him about this recipe and it is on his requested menu of things for me to cook while he’s in town! I’m sure he’ll be just as impressed as we were, can’t get enough!5 stars
