❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS CAKE

This is a dump cake so it’s very simple to make but we spiced this one up a little and it’s a family favorite now. The addition of the caramel sauce makes it take like a candy apple and that is always a plus! This cake is great to take to any gathering because it comes together quickly. We love making this one in the Fall of the year after a day spent at our local orchard.

Top this one with whipped cream or ice cream and add more caramel sauce for a real treat. Plus this recipe is a handful of ingredients which is always a big plus.

🍴KEY INGREDIENTS

Apples – We used golden delicious apples to make this cake and it turned out well. I have never made it with green apples or apple pie filling.

Spice Cake Mix – This is really going to give this cake a great flavor. It takes this dump cake to the next level. Spices and apples just go together.

Caramel Ice Cream Topping – This is the best addition to this cake! It goes IN the cake.. It’s so good!

Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Vanilla – These spices are part of what makes this cake so good.

Pecans – Apples, spices and pecans go together but if you don’t like them you can leave them out.

Unsalted Butter – This is a must when making dump cakes!

SWAPS

I have not tried switching out the cake mixes in this recipe, but someone in the comments used a carrot cake mix in a pinch. I would think a yellow cake might work, but you would want to double the spices to replace the spices from the spice cake mix.

⭐TIP

Try to get the entire cake covered with the butter or it will show dry spots when it’s done baking. If you need to add a few thin pats of butter places you can. We used caramel sauce we just purchased at the store, but you can always make our homemade caramel sauce. It reheats well and is delicious!
