CHOCOLATE CREAM CHEESE CUPCAKES
These Chocolate Cream Cheese Cupcakes are made from scratch and so good. They are the perfect addition to ANY gathering!

You should also give this delicious Martha Washington Candy a try! It’s and old fashioned recipe and always a hit.
❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE
This recipe has everything we love, chocolate, cream cheese, nuts (optional) and our favorite chocolate frosting. So these cupcakes are a winner! They take a little time to put together but they are worth the effort. If you want to make something special for a birthday or a gathering, put these on your dessert table!
SWAPS
If you don’t want to spend the time to make these 100% from scratch, you can use a chocolate cake mix to save time. You could also use store bought frosting. These are quick swaps that will bring this recipe together quicker. Personally, we love the homemade version, but we know not everyone has the time for all that. Nuts are completely optional in this recipe.

DOES THE FROSTING HARDEN AT ALL?
Yes, the top of the frosting does harden a little but it’s still soft on the cupcake. It is the best frosting ever and I definitely think you should give it a try!

Fabulous
I assume with the cream cheese they’ll need to be stored in the fridge?
You can put them in the refrigerator or just store them in a cool place.
Haven’t made these yet, but they look really good. Just a quick question before I make them. In the picture, the filling looks like it doesn’t have chocolate in it. I know the recipe for the filling lists chocolate chips, but the picture looks like there is no chocolate in it. Can you clarify this for me? Thanks for all the hard work you do and all the great recipes you share with us.

Hi Claudine, it just so happened that picture didnt show any of the chocolate chips.. just add them in and you will love this recipe!
Thank you for the quick reply! Gonna make these ASAP! Yum.
Hi! So I thought I’d experiment and bake it as a cake. I put a lot of Crisco on pan. However, I should have had parchment paper. I baked it for 50 min. The flavor was delicious . Didn’t come out of pan very good. Will use parchment paper and will make again. So good. I put strawberry syrup on top!!
Could I make this recipe into a cake instead of cupcakes? 9×13 pan?
Candy, we have never made these cupcakes as a cake.
I have made these for years. My family loves them. I use a cake mix and can frosting, which saves a lot of time.
Hello- the picture looks amazing. Does the cake ingredients have any eggs or do we get the egg part from the cream cheese filling?
You can clearly see in the recipe card the egg is in the cream cheese filling.
Every time I have made these the filling goes to the bottom of each cupcake. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. They are still excellent.
Interesting.. you may be over mixing the cake.. but I honestly cant say for sure.
I can’t wait to try this recipe. It looks and sounds scrumptious! Your recipes are always “spot on”!
YAY!! Hope you love this one! Thank you for the kind words!
This recipe got rave reviews when I took them to Bingo last week. Most of the people thought they had come from a bakery because they were so delicious. I will definitely bring them to a family affair in the near future. Don’t hesitate to make them for any type of gathering, and then listen to all the complements!
YAY!! So glad you made them and they were a hit! We love them too!
Was wondering how many individual cupcakes this recipe makes, 12 or 24? I know if a cake mix is used, that will usually make 24. Thanks!
This recipe made 16 cucpcakes, 2 of them were on the smaller size. So if you made them all smaller, you would get around 24.
Thanks for your quick reply!
Those look awesome!
