Maple Pecan Pumpkin Pie The Southern Lady Cooks

This pie is a combination of two of my favorite desserts, our maple pecan pie and our holiday pumpkin pie. This dessert has quickly become a family favorite. I’m asked to make it every Thanksgiving. The best part is this pie is so easy.

Maple Pecan Pumpkin Pie

1 1/2 cups pumpkin, canned or fresh (not the pumpkin pie mix)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups evaporated milk

2 eggs

3/4 cup sugar

1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 (9 inch) uncooked pie shell

Maple Pecan Topping:

1 cup of chopped pecans

1/3 cup of brown sugar

1 tablespoon of real maple syrup

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Combine pumpkin, salt, milk, eggs in a bowl and mix well with mixer.  Add sugar, spices and vanilla and continue to mix.  Pour into the pie shell.  Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.  Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking 35 to 45 minutes until center is set. 8-10 minutes before pie is done cooking, take out of oven and sprinkle maple pecan topping to the top of the pie. Place back in the oven and continue backing till pie is completely cooked.

Maple Pecan Topping Instructions: Mix all ingredients together and gently sprinkle over pie 8-10 minutes before pie is completely cooked through.

Note: Let pie completely cool before slicing.
