CROCK POT MISSISSIPPI POT ROAST
This Mississippi Pot Roast will go down as one of the best roasts ever. It has only five simple ingredients, is loaded with flavor, and is super simple to make.

We love to serve this roast over our Creamy Mashed Potatoes. It’s the perfect combination! The best comfort food.
❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE
We love the simplicity of this roast, throw everything in the crock pot before work and it’s done when you come home. That is the best way to cook! It would also be great over egg noodles, a baked potato, or on it’s own. It reheats well and has a delicious flavor.
🍴KEY INGREDIENTS
- Chuck Roast
- Unsalted Butter
- Ranch Dressing Mix (packet)
- Au ju gravy mix
- Pepperoncini peppers
SWAPS
If you want to make this gluten free you can use brown gravy mix that is gluten free. I have done that a few times and it was delicious.
🍽️HOW TO MAKE
The thing about this recipe is how simple it is, I am not even going to lay out any cooking steps. You just put the roast in the crock pot, cover it with ranch mix, au jus mix, and, place a stick of butter and a few peppers, and turn the crock pot on. It’s THAT easy!

⭐TIP
This roast makes a lot of gravy, which is one of the reasons we love to have it over a mashed potatoes. Do not add salt to this recipe, it has plenty with the two packets. I also use unsalted butter.

I have a hard time finding Au Jus mix so I use onion soup mix in its place. Wonderful recipe that I crave! Same recipe also works with chicken breast! Shred chicken when done, put on a bun with some provolone cheese, wrap in foil and place in 350 oven for a few mins til cheese melts! So good! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
You are very welcome! Glad you have made it work for you!
Your pictures make me want to try your recipes…looking good!
I made this recipe for ski patrollers last year with a venison roast. Omg! They absolutely loved it. My husband said that they wanted the recipe and I was glad to give it. I always come to Southern Ladies for the BEST recipes! Thank you for wonderful recipes ❤️
YAY!! We are so glad to hear this, what a wonderful review and I love that you used a venison roast. Thank you so much for the kind comments!
I buy my Au jus in larger containers. How much is i the packet you list? Thanks.
The package is 1 ounce.
I love your recipes, all I have tried have been GREAT! I also love my pressure cooker. My wife is afraid of it so she only likes it when I do the cooking. I hope you like pressure cookers and will sometimes post recipes using them. I feel that they do the same things as crock pots only in about one tenth the time.
Todays pressure cookers are very safe. You can’t open them until they are SAFE!
Thanks for reading this, Regards, Tom
We are so glad you have enjoyed the recipes! Thank you for the kind comment. We have never had a pressure cooker, but we are so glad you have such success with yours.
Maybe it is a female / male thing. Most women I know do not like presssure cookers I think they are afraid of them.
i love all the things u 2 cook, ty
So glad you enjoy the recipes!
I tried this recipe last week as it was written. It was delicious, no need to tweek anything. The meat was juicy and oh so tender. The flavor of the gravy was amazing. Absolutely will make this again!
So glad it was a hit!!
I have made this for years. It is so incredibly good I will crave it now until I make it. It is 96 degrees here and not the time of year I usually have it. I can’t wait now!
Can u put carrots and potatoes in the same time as the roast or wait to put them in?
You can put them in at the same time.
Question
Do you add water to this?
No, we don’t, if we did it would be a part of the recipe. You are welcome to add water if you like.
Fantastic, made it tonight for my husband and myself was very good, will make again.
Oh my, this roast was absolutely delicious! Hubby took one bite and said “This is a keeper!”. That’s the true test of good food in our home. I did make one substitution. I used a green pepper cut into 6 pieces instead of pepperoncini’s. That’s one pepper I don’t like at all. It was a wonderful recipe!
I made this during the infamous 2020 quarantine we are experiencing now for just my husband and me. I didn’t have any pepperoncini peppers and wasn’t going to go to the store for 1 item! I used 2 regular green peppers and a couple shakes of crushed red pepper flakes instead. We loved it!
You did great making this recipe work for you! Sounds delicious!
I made the Mississippi pot roast awhile back, and it was good but very salty. I dont think I used the peppers, would that have cut the salt? Any suggestions?
I would think the peppers would help and you can also use unsalted butter, look for low sodium gravy mix and add extra water to dilute it.
