This brown sugar meatloaf recipe has a sweet and sour flavor and my family loves it.
1 1/2 to 2 pounds ground beef
1 cup quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1/2 cup green onions, chopped
1/3 cup green pepper, chopped
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke (Optional)
Several drops hot sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt or to taste
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce, divided (Save the other half for the sauce)
1 egg
1 tablespoon brown sugar.
Mix all the above ingredients together in a large bowl. Shape into a loaf, place in casserole dish and bake uncovered in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Sauce
1/2 cup tomato sauce( the other half of the 8 ounce can)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
Whisk sauce ingredients together in a bowl. Remove meatloaf after 30 minutes and pour sauce over the top. Raise oven temperature to 375 degrees and return meatloaf to oven. Cook 35 more minutes.
Serve any leftover sauce in pan over individual meatloaf slices. Enjoy!

Yum, that sounds good. I love meatloaf, and this one sounds right up my alley. Thanks for that and Happy Memorial Day. God bless our troops and veterans!
Meatloaf is definitely a favorite…sweeten it up and I’ll eat it all myself. =) Thanks for making my mouth water…again.
I am making this Monday as part of my birthday dinner..I have a feeling me and my family will thoroughly enjoy this dish
This recipe sounds wonderful. Got to try it!
Sounds good and very similar to my recipe. I put the whole can of tomato sauce in the meat loaf though and use ketchup, brown sugar and dry mustard for the topping the last few minutes in the oven. So good!
I like that you use the oats, that is definately a healthy and frugal addition to stretch your meat budget!
I have added Jimmy Dean’s maple flavored sausage to this also, just leave out some of your h.b. meat and you can also substiture Turkey if you prefer!! definite HIT!
Try this sue.
Yum! Brown sugar makes about anything better!
love this meatloaf mmmmmm
I made this and we love it!!! Thanks for all you do!
So happy you enjoyed it, Evelyn, and thanks for your lovely comment and being a part of the site.
I will have to try this one,I have a good recipe but never thought of putting brown sugar I have put liquid smoke and it is good. But i will be making this as soon as I get back home ..Thank you so much for the posting I just love all that you post for us Thank You again..
Glad you like the recipes, Wanda. Thank you for your great comment and for being part of my site.
Oh my mouth is watering…. I can’t tell you how much I miss meatloaf but sadly the rest of my family won’t eat it! Can you adopt me so I can enjoy some of this? lol!
I love meatloaf as well but it’s not one of my family’s favorites. But, I found that when I make any ground beef meal (hamburgers, sloppy joe’s, etc.) I can reserve what would amount to about 2 hamburger patties and made a “mini” meatloaf…have also used the full recipe, formed into “mini” loaves and frozen them for “whenever”!
I make my meatloaf the same way but for the sauce I use ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire Sauce. Mix together and spread on meatloaf 1/2 hour before done.
it’s dinner time with no plan on what to make and I’m looking at the picture and reading the recipe, trying very hard not to drool on my lap top! looks delicious
That recipe put me in the mood to make meatloaf tonight. My recipe is somewhat similar, but I put cooked chopped spinach, cream cheese and mozzarella cheese in the middle…. sometimes bacon strips….YUM!!!!
A good Meatloaf with mash taters is soo Good! But for me the Meatloaf Sandwich is the Best!!!
This sounds so good…I usually use a sweet BBQ sauce on top of my meatloaf, but I think I’m gonna give this one a try…Thanks for the recipe <3
gonna try it as Salisbury’s see how that goes too.
would regular old fashioned oats work?
Yes, I think so.
am leaving in guadeloupe , lot of things we don’t got here ! i really love trying this recipe
