SEVEN-LAYER BARS
Seven Layer Bars, also known as Dolly Bars, are so easy to make and absolutely delicious! Perfect for any occasion.

If you love easy recipes like this one, you must give our Pineapple Coconut Bars a try. They are made with only 5 ingredients and are delicious.
❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE
We love how delicious these bars are and how easy they are to make. It only takes about 10 minutes to put these together, the longest part of the process breaking up the graham crackers. Then you just layer everything, bake and enjoy! We love them cold or hot.
SWAPS
Some people don’t use the butterscotch chips so you can easily leave them out if you prefer. We think they add a great flavor. If you hate coconut you can leave it out too but it really does add to these bars. We love them with walnuts but pecans work too.

⭐TIP
Some people put parchment paper in the pan first for easy removal. I have never had an issue with these bars sticking and they come out just fine. But you can add the paper if you prefer.

What holds the bars together? With no egg or flour.
I guess that is why some people call them magic bars, Beverly.lol. They do stay together as you can see in the photos.
The sweetened condensed milk is like a glue you press the coconut into…plus, it’s all on a crust. The Graham Cracker crust. And then the morsels get melty and “hold on” to the nuts. 🙂
I don’t have any graham crackers in my cupboard but I do have leftover chocolate chip cookies. What would happen if I put the chocolate chip cookies in my Cuisinart and make crumbs out of them and then added them to the melted butter and press them to the bottom of the pan??
I have never tried it. Sorry.
Sometimes I substitute peanut butter chips instead of choc and oatmeal for the coconut. Makes wonderful bars.
My sons can’t have chocolate can raisins be used instead and can raisins be added to the original recipe for the rest of the family.
Yes, I think you could do that Amanda.
really good thanks
Would these work if you left out the coconut ? Or is there something else I could use in its place as my Husband hates coconut ?
yes you can leave out coconut. some of my family love it others hate it so I sometimes put coconut on half of the layer.
I leave out the coconut for my husband and give a little more of the slchips and it works just fine!
Chips* not slchips lol
I don’t like coconut but I bet they would still be good even without it!
Try oatmeal in place of the coconut
Eagle Brand Milk calls them Magic Cookie Bars and leaves out the butterscotch chips. One of our favorites.
Thanks for the reminder!
Love the magic cookie bars, been making them for years.
this does sound very nice ,but i am from the uk what is a stick of butter.? could anyone please let me know.
1 stick of butter = 1/4 pound of butter. It’s also the same as 8 tablespoons.
Our butter comes 4 sticks (1 pound) to a container.
We get butter in packs of four sticks. which equal a pound, so 1 stick would be a 1/4 pound. Or 8 Tablespoons.
We divide butter into 4 sticks/box..one stick = 8 tablespoons
When I lived in England, I couldn’t find Graham Crackers. I used the plain “vanilla” Digestive Biscuits. They worked very well. I just put them in a bag and made crumbs out of them. I think it took an entire package. I did have to use a little extra butter to get everything to stay down.
If you make these, put the sweetened condensed milk on last. You can make sure to cover all the other goodies.
Where in UK do you live? We were in Surrey, Farnham.
Just wanted to share that with you.
I make these every Christmas , we call them Hello Dollies…..love them!
I been making these for years except i use a chocolate cake mix with one stick of butter softened mix together and press crust on a 10.5 x 15 cookie sheet as the crust and I call them Almost Candy Bar Cookies
A Holiday staple since my childhood ! So easy, mess free, and yummy !
I haven’t made this in years but always loved them will have to make the again soon
I use chocolate graham crackers and skip the butterscotch chips for a different variation to this vintage recipe that I love.
I tried these and although they are awesome and I will make them again, next time I am going to try mixing the condesed milk into everything else. I had alot of dry crumbly pieces.
Sounds yummy!
Another favorite of mine! This is a great recipe to use for a last minute desert to take somewhere or have at home for visitors…OR just me! Ha! Sheila from MyKentuckyLiving.
I have Celiac Disease (Gluten Free) would the Gluten Free Chex cereal work in this recipe?
I don’t know Linda. I think you could use it but have never tried it.
If you can find gluten free graham crackers use them. If you can’t find them use gluten free shortbread cookies, just cut down on the butter.
Classic recipe that I made many years ago. Even now, it always disappears!
This is an old recipe but it is wonderful. Very addictive.
What a yummy bar.. I’d eat the whole pan I bet! xx
not if your family finds them first lol… they are to die for.
these sounds so amazing and so easy ..I will be making these tonight ,Thank You so much for all your hard work .Putting all the nice things for us to try…
I have made these, but they are not crunchy in the bottom. They are soggy. What am I doing wrong? My grandboys always eat them, but mine do not look like the picture. I use a 9×13 glass dish? Any suggestions?
Maybe you could put crust into oven for a few minute before putting in the rest of recipe
