  5. This was AMAZING! Added 4 stalks of sliced celery to the last 5 minutes of the noodles. Kept everything the same. Will definitely be making again & sharing the recipe with my grown children!5 stars

  6. First time trying. Just took it out of the oven and the first sample tastes awesome.
Just a heads up, the description says to cook uncovered but when you print the recipe it doesn’t say covered or uncovered. Glad I cooked uncovered and it’s perfect.
    Thanks again. It’s a keeper.5 stars

  7. Sharon Kellie says:

could you do this in a slow cooker?

    1. The Southern Lady says:

I’ve never made this recipe in a slow cooker so I can’t advise.

      1. Do you think I could use cream of chicken soup? It’s all I have in my pantry

      2. The Southern Lady says:

        Yep!

  8. Jessica from Kentucky says:

This was very good. Next time I will add a little of taco seasoning or something to spice it up just a little. Will make this again for sure5 stars

    1. Blair Warren says:

Would you recommend a whole or half pack of taco seasoning??

      1. I haven’t tried it yet with taco seasoning. Just used other spices5 stars

  9. I don’t have garlic on hand, but I do have garlic powder. Can I substitute and how much would I use? Thanks.

    1. The Southern Lady says:

yes, you can substitute and I would use the same amount of garlic powder.

  10. This is my 3rd time making this! Its soooo good! Hubby doesn’t really like mushrooms, so I add a can of corn instead. (he doesn’t know I use cream of MUSHROOM soup in it too! lol) Definitely a keeper!5 stars

    1. The Southern Lady says:

Wonderful! Way to be sneaky! We love this recipe too!

    2. I added fresh spinach and used fresh mushrooms. I mixed everything together with the noodles before putting in oven. Dinner was fabulous!! Definitely will be making again5 stars

  11. We just finished eating way too much of this, it’s really that good! I’m sharing this recipe with friends and family, and I told my husband this will go to his next work potluck because it’s a 10!5 stars

    1. The Southern Lady says:

Wonderful! I am so glad you enjoyed it! We love this one too 🙂

      1. Made this for dinner and from your directions it looked like layering meat sauce then noodles and cheese and repeat. But my noodles on top were all dried out, so I think next time I will just mix the whole thing together and put foil on top when I do the initial baking, and then remove the foil, top with cheese and put it in till the cheese melts. If the top noodles hadn’t been so crunchy I would have given it 4 stars.3 stars

  12. Lisa Harper says:

I make a similar dish, except I cook it in a Dutch oven on top of stove..
after browning beef, onions, and seasonings, I then add uncooked noodles. I add a can of beef broth..or you can use a can of beefy mushroom soup..or both of these, depending on size of dish you need. I then add shredded cheese and mix all together. This is a go to dish here, and one I make at least once a month. ** you could empty it into a baking dish after it’s done on stove** baking at 350 for 15-30 minutes..adding more cheese on top.5 stars

  13. Britani Szitar says:

Can’t wait to try this!! It’s ok to omit the mushrooms without altering any other ingredients right?5 stars

    1. The Southern Lady says:

Should be fine. If you don’t want to use the cream of mushroom soup, someone left a comment saying cream of celery worked well. Enjoy!

  14. This is a new family favorite!5 stars

  15. Has anyone tried this with cream of bacon soup?

    1. Brandi Harrington says:

There’s a cream of bacon soup? I think that would be great! How can you go wrong with bacon?

  16. Stephanie says:

Has anyone tried cooking this and then freezing some of it? I’m guessing it would be ok as I have done it with other casseroles but thought I’d ask. Thanks in advance!

    1. The Southern Lady says:

I think it would freeze ok, Stephanie.

      1. Stephanie says:

        Thanks!

  17. Michelle McBride says:

I was so excited to try this only change I did was fresh mushrooms… I did add last nites left over peas…
    It seems really dry…. Advice?
Oh I did barely use Thyme.. not a fan of thyme..
I will have to try this again but it needs more moisture.
Thoughts on how I could have failed this recipie?5 stars

    1. The Southern Lady says:

You could try adding a little more milk, Michelle, because you added extra ingredients they could have soaked up more of the liquid and you did use fresh mushrooms in the recipe. Hope this helps.

  18. This is in the oven right now, and it smells good! I would like to make this as a meal for a meal train, but I feel like I should also include some kind of side? Any suggestions? All I can think of is a tossed salad. Thanks!5 stars

  19. Patty Kline says:

My family doesn’t do cream of anything soup nor do they like mushrooms. What can I use to substitute those ingredients?

No creamed soup or mushrooms. Hope that helps.

      2. What about a cheese soup?

      3. The Southern Lady says:
