SOUTHERN PIMENTO CHEESE SPREAD

Southern Pimento Cheese - The Southern Lady Cooks

Southern Pimento Cheese Spread is one you will make over and over again and there will never be any left.  My family loves this spread and I make it whenever I am having guests over to watch football or anytime family comes so we will have something to munch on.  Serve with just about any kind of crackers or scoops or whatever you like.  You could double the recipe for a large group.  This keeps well several days refrigerated.  Use your own preferences on spices and hot sauce to make it your own.  You might also like our recipe for shrimp dip.

Southern Pimento cheese spread is a Classic

If you go just about anywhere in the south you will see pimento cheese, it’s a wonderful staple and we all love it. There are many variations of pimento cheese but this one is at the top of the list. Many people will debate if you use cream cheese or not and we have a recipe on our site that doesn’t too. Both are delicious and they both are easy to make. If you want to try one with out cream cheese, try this one.

This spread is super simple and only a few ingredients:

  • Cheddar Cheese (shredded)- see below
  • Jar of Pimentos
  • Cream Cheese
  • salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Garlic Powder or Minced Garlic
  • Onion Powder
  • Mayonnaise
  • Hot Sauce (optional)
  • Smoked Paprika

How to Prepare?

One thing is you must shred your own cheese, it really does make a big difference. So buy the block cheddar cheese and definitely shred it yourself. Since this recipe is made with cream cheese, we do use a mixer. The other version we make we just mix with a spoon but the mixer is needed in this recipe.

*We do set this out for a 10 minutes or so before we serve it, the cream cheese will make it thick when it gets cold. So just set it out for a bit and then stir and serve!

Which Mayonnaise do you use?

This is a big debated question but we use Duke’s and it’s our favorite. It’s made in South Carolina and has always been our go to mayonnaise. Now you use whichever one your family likes. I will say we have never used miracle whip but I’m sure many have.

Favorite way to serve it?

We love it on Ritz crackers or on white bread as a sandwich. It’s delicious on veggies, pretzels, bagel chips, or in a tortilla. It keeps for a few days in the fridge so you can easily make it advance for a gathering or enjoy it for a few days. One person said they enjoy it on their burgers in the summertime.
