Brown Sugar PieBrown Sugar Pie won’t last long.  It never does at my house and people usually love it. Brown Sugar Pie is an old-fashioned recipe that has been around for years.  This pie is perfect for your holiday menu! You can take this pie to any holiday event or make it for any occasion and you won’t have any left.  Serve with ice cream or whipped cream on top for a delicious treat anytime.  You might also like to check out our recipe for old-fashioned oatmeal pie.

Brown sugar pie makes a great dessert and is wonderful with your morning coffee.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 eggs
4 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
1 (9 inch) pie crust, unbaked
 

Instructions

Combine all ingredients and mix well with a wire whisk.  Pour into unbaked pie shell.  Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 50 to 55 minutes.  Pie will rise up while cooking and later after it comes out of the oven will go back down. Add some whipped cream or ice cream and ENJOY!

    I made the 5 ingredient brown sugar pie and I packed the brown sugar and I used vanilla extract not lemon. The texture is perfect but my husband says it has a bitterness. What could I have done wrong?

      It sounds like you may have left something out, Patricia. There are 6 ingredients plus the crust. If you used all six ingredients, I don’t know what the problem could be because it is never bitter for me.

    This looks yummy, will have to try. I guess it doesn’t matter if you use light or dark brown sugar? I know in the South it’s usually a personal preference?

I have a Pie Cookbook (among a library of other cookbooks), and in the cookbook I mention, I’ve written down a recipe for Brown Sugar Pie that was given me by an older lady I used to work with years ago. This lady is dead & gone now, but I do remember how good her pie was. I’ll have to compare her recipe with this one. Her pie was delicious, I just never did get around to baking it. I think I’ll bake both & compare them to a taste test.

  9. Made this pie and loved it !!!! Here in Northern NY along the Canadian border, those of us of French decent have a similar pie we call “Sugar Pie”.
    This recipe is so much easier. My family loved it.

    • My mom’s family is in Canada….my grandmother and aunt both made it but didn’t have a recipes…..you know ….hand full of this, pinch of that….Thanks for the recipe…I’ll definitely be trying it.

  11. Pecan pie is one of my absolute favorites and this looks like a delicious alternative. It’s refreshing to have a recipe with a few less ingredients on the list. Nothing is more frustrating than a last minute run to the store because your nutmeg is stuck at the bottom of the container!

  13. This brown sugar pie looks wonderful!! Question?-Is this similar to a pecan pie minus the pecans? You have no idea how many times, Ive ordered or made a Pecan pie only to take the top layer of pecans off to nibble the bottom, gooey layer! YUM!!

  15. LOVE this recipe. We omit the lemon juice and add chopped pecans. The pecans float to the top while baking! My favorite “pecan pie”!
