This hearty soup is one your family will love. Loaded with delicious vegetables, pork breakfast sausage, beans and pasta!

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE
Pasta soup is great for any day or meal and when you add sausage and white beans this is a delicious comfort food meal. Serve this pasta soup with a sandwich or cornbread and your family and guests will be coming back for more. This soup is so good in fall, autumn, winter or anytime you want an easy crock pot or slow cooker recipe.
🍴KEY INGREDIENTS
- Breakfast pork sausage (You can use mild or hot. I used the mild)
- Onion, chopped
- Dried basil
- Minced garlic
- Chicken broth
- Diced tomatoes, undrained
- Water
- Tomato sauce
- Cream of celery soup
- Baby carrots
- Dried great northern beans
- Elbow macaroni or pasta shells
- Black pepper
- Salt to taste
- Cabbage, shredded (Optional)
SWAPS
We love this soup made with pork sausage but you could easily use ground beef or ground turkey.
🍽️HOW TO MAKE
Like most soups, the most time-consuming part is combining all the ingredients. The prep for this one involves cooking the sausage.
COOKING STEPS
Step 1
Brown sausage and onion with basil and garlic in a skillet. Drain and pour into crock pot. Add all other ingredients except the pasta.
Step 2
Cook on low for seven to eight hours or high for 4 or 5 hours. About an hour before soup finishes cooking, add pasta.
Step 3
This could be made on top of the stove as well. Just cook in large pot until beans are tender. Then add pasta or shells about the last 20 minutes.

⭐TIP
This delicious soup is really good the next day so you can easily make it a day in advance. If you wanted to add a little heat to this dish, you could easily switch out the tomatoes for Rotels.

- 1 pound breakfast pork sausage You can use mild or hot. I used the mild

- 1 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes, undrained

- 1/2 package Kroger baby carrots or 3 to 4 carrots cut in pieces
- 1 cup dried great northern beans
- 1/2 cup elbow macaroni or pasta shells
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup cabbage shredded (Optional)

Made this soup for the first time this weekend and it was delicious, rich and hearty! A keeper for sure. (Didn’t have pasta on hand so used a little potato and it was a fine substitute. Will try pasta next round.)
I’d like to try this, but I’m a bit turned off by the Cream of Celery soup???? Could I substitute a different Creamed soup?
Yes, I’m sure you can use another cream soup.
One question was if you could use can beans. Could you please give instructions for using can beans (ie: how many cans, drain or not and when to add).
Love all your recipes im 72 and grew up eating a lot of them.
The amount of beans isnt really going to change the recipe. You can use a a 15 ounce can of beans or just use a cup. If you like beans add the whole can. You can also add the beans to the crock pot when you cook everything else, they wont over cook in the crock pot for that amount of time.

This was very good. I think next time I make it , I will.not use pasta but will add a bit of cabbage. Still gets s thumbs up.
I got rave reviews with this so simple to make soup. I served it with homemade cornbread.
Very good. I like spicy so I used hot sausage! It was even a little too hot for me. So easy in the crockpot. Just added a French baguette and side salad.
Can you use canned white beans?
Sure you could do that Cindy.

It was super easy to make from things already on hand.
I soaked the dried beans before hand and left out the pasta.

Can you use an instapot instead of a crockpot?
I have not tried this in an instapot, so I really can’t advise you but I think it would work, Jenifer.

I made in the insta pot.You have to becareful.I brownd my meat add stock the beans and veggies and spices an soup stew tomatoes/ sauce.Do not stir I pressure cooked 20 minutes then added pasta for 3 min.it eas perfect.My instapot said burn.I shut it of letvit sit for 10 minutes released presure it was perfect.We loved it next time I will cut back on pepper
I did double batch andvused 2tsps. I was to hot for me.

Have you tried to freeze this soup? I like to make a large amount and freeze in quart freezer bags for another time.
I have not tried freezing it Cheri but I think it would freeze o.k.

This recipe looked so good that I went grocery shopping and put it in the slow cooker 🙂 I do have a question/concern though: adding one tablespoon of black pepper seemed like quite a bit to me, so I only added 1/2 t…. do you use the whole tablespoon of black pepper?

Thanks for getting back to me! I ended up using 1 t. of the black pepper and it was still too hot for me, so I added more beans and pasta… overall, it is one delicious soup! I also shared the recipe with my mom in another province and she made it straight away and both parents loved it too 🙂
