This recipe is super hard to get great pictures of since its just a casserole topped with cheese. Not a lot to work with, but the taste is so good it doesn’t matter! We recently remade this delicious dish so we could update this recipe and it didn’t last a day. Great reviews on this dish too.

My mom makes something very similar to this called cheese apples but it’s made with canned apples and velveeta. I try to avoid velveeta and canned things. This was so good and tastes just like hers but better!! Thank you for a real food recipe! We are having it tomorrow at thanksgiving.” – Brooke
“I made this Cheesy Apple Casserole for my friend. He and I really enjoyed it. I used 1.5 cups white granulated sugar and 1.5 cups of brown sugar. WOW! The apples were cooked just right. The cheddar cheese really added to the flavor and goes so well with apples. Thanks for sharing.” – Sue
“This is so delicious! Easy, and a hit on Thanksgiving. If I make this just for family again on a regular night, I may cut the butter and use low fat cheddar cheese. But for a holiday, full day perfect!” – Michelle

This is absolutely delicious. It was a very good side dish to pork chops. Will be a dish I make often.
So glad you gave this one a try! We love it too!
Can this be made a day ahead and reheated?
Thanks!
Yes, it absolutely can be.
Really delicious! Saw this recipe and knew I needed it NOW! I used Granny Smith and honey crisp apples, sharp cheddar, reduced the sugar to 3/4 c, used half-n-half since we’re out of milk atm, and added a tablespoon of white balsamic reduction. I will make this again!
How many does this serve? It sounds delicious. There are only 3 of us, on a tight budget. Thanks!
Around 6-8 servings. Thanks!
I always put cheese on my apple pie that I make my Dutch apple pie that I make and this is so much better because it’s all put together without having a great cheese later on and what have you to put into it I tried it and it’s just as good and it kind of brought tears to my eyes cuz it tasted more like my grandma’s recipe how we miss our relatives is beyond words so thank you for sharing this one
So glad you enjoyed it!
I would give it at least 10 stars. This is absolutely scrumptious. I went apple picking in the NC mountains several weeks ago and had just enough left to make this recipe. The apples were Stayman Winesap—tart and delicious and perfect for this dish! I can’t wait for Thanksgiving so that I can share this find with my family! Thank you!!
YAY! We’re thrilled you enjoyed this dish Teresa. We agree…it’s scrumptious!
These recipes take me back to my mom and grandma. Some of these were in their heads and never written down. Thank you for the recipes and the memories.

You’re so welcome!!
I haven’t made thisvyet, but it looks so good! I do have a question for you though, is this a dessert or a side item? If a side item, what suggestions to serve it with?
It’s a side dish and it’s wonderful with pork chops. Honestly this dish goes great with just about anything.
I use this as a side dish with less sugar ,and use a green apple or more firm the red delight. It the remind me of a cheesy potato type side dish. Of course it is the cheesy sauce that is wonderful.
Love this recipe! And are you kidding me? That picture looks good enough to eat!
Looks delicious. Will make it for Thanksgiving. In my family, it is a tradition to have a wedge of cheddar cheese along with a slice of apple pie.
I think you are going to love this recipe!
I did a twist to the Cheesy Apple Casserole. Cream the salt butter and sugar, mix in vanilla, then mix in the flour, I used sour cream instead of the milk and add it last using mixer. This comes out so incredibly good! Give it a try!!
