Cajun Hominy Skillet - The Southern Lady Cooks

Cajun hominy skillet is a great way to use hominy in a recipe.  Of course, this dish contains the holy trinity of Cajun cooking in Louisiana which is onions, peppers and celery along with my homemade Cajun seasoning.  I use the Cajun seasoning on lots of meats and in vegetable dishes.  It just gives them a good flavor.  This makes a wonderful side dish to any meal or use your imagination and add hamburger, chicken or a favorite meat to make it a one skillet meal.  We love easy dishes with lots of flavor and I love the colors in this one.  It looks so pretty on the table.

Cajun hominy skillet ingredients needed:

This dish is made with simple ingredients but it’s loaded in flavor!

2 (15.5 ounce) can hominy

Bacon drippings

Green onion or regular onion

Sweet green pepper

Diced tomatoes with green chilis- we like to use the mild Rotel tomatoes in this dish too. Great flavor!

Garlic powder

Black pepper

Cajun seasoning

You could also add smoked sausage to this dish! That would be a delicious addition and make it more a main dish.

If you have followed our website for any amount of time, you know we like easy recipes loaded in flavor. Another popular recipe that takes no time to throw together is our Unstuffed Pepper Skillet. It’s perfect for a busy night and reheats well.

This Bacon Cabbage Skillet is always a hit too. This is a recipe that has been around a long time and has many variations. We love the addition of cream cheese and pimentos. It takes this dish up a level!

  1. What would you recommend as the best substitute for the sweet green pepper? We are not fans of green bell pepper, cooked or raw. Should I just use a ripe [colored] bell pepper, or a can of green chiles?
