Chocolate waffles are delicious.   Serve these chocolate waffles  with ice cream on top, fruit, honey, syrup or whatever you can come up with.  I love the crunch of the nuts and chocolate chips in these waffles.   I can eat one like a cracker for a snack!  The topping in the picture is French vanilla ice cream and caramel syrup. Try these chocolate waffles for breakfast or as a treat anytime with coffee or milk.  A welcome change from just regular waffles. Children will like these and will enjoy helping you make them as well.  Love this quote about chocolate:  Coffee makes it possible to get out of bed. Chocolate makes it worthwhile. ~~ Author Unknown

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
2/3 cup walnut pieces
Spray for waffle iron
Mix together flour, sugar, melted butter, cocoa, eggs, vanilla, buttermilk, salt, soda and baking power with a spoon in a large bowl. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.   Preheat waffle iron and spray with cooking spray. Cook as usual or by directions for your waffle iron.  I use a 1/4 cup measuring cup of batter for each waffle.  Makes 10 to 12 waffles. ENJOY with toppings of your choice.
(Note: I freeze these and reheat by putting in toaster)
