SOUTHERN BAKED BEANS

Baked beans are a favorite at my house.

Baked beans are one dish I make often for my family because they love them. This is a quick and easy recipe for these great baked beans. Serve them as a side dish anytime. Perfect for any gathering and everyone loves them. I have been making these baked beans for 40 years and my mother made them before me.  They keep well refrigerated when left over and the recipe can be doubled or tripled for a crowd or cut in half for a single person.  My daughter, Leigh, makes a great maple baked bean recipe you can check out here.  Her recipe has sausage.  We make it just about as much as we make this one.  I think you will love trying both recipes!

Baked Beans make a great side dish

2 (15 oz.) cans pork-n-beans, drained

1 small onion, chopped

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon tomato ketchup

1 tablespoon molasses or dark syrup

2-3 slices of bacon

Drain beans, combine with all other ingredients in an oven safe casserole dish.  Place bacon slices on top.  Cook uncovered in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.  Makes 6 to 8 servings.  Enjoy!

Note:  You can make these beans in the crock pot, too.  Just throw all ingredients in the crock pot and cook about 4 hours.  If you cook a long time, the beans will get mushy. I make them in the crock pot a lot.
