SAUSAGE SAUERKRAUT CASSEROLE

 

This delicious sausage sauerkraut casserole is so easy to make and taste great. We love the addition of apples for a little sweetness. The combination give this dish a great pop! Throw this one together in no time and enjoy a great dish.

 

Sausage Sauerkraut Casserole

1 lb of Johnsonville Italian Mild Sausage

2 red apples, peeled and chopped

1/2 cup of white onion, chopped

24 ounces of sauerkraut, drained

1/3 cup of brown sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of caraway seeds

3/4th cup of water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a skillet, brown sausage with onion over medium heat. Drain and add remaining ingredients. Mix well and cook in oven for 15 minutes. Take out of oven after 15 minutes, stir and cook another 15 minutes. I made this in an iron skillet and didn’t cover it. You can easily combine the ingredients in a casserole dish to cook in the oven.

  1. I just made this…and YUM! It is so simple & delicious! I added one cubed sweet potato and used vegan spicy sausage from the “Beyond Meat” brand. I did not add brown sugar. Reminds me of my grandmother for sure!5 stars

    I’m making this tonight with half hot pork links and half sweet. Forgot the apples. Used Bubbies hot & spicy sauerkraut. It smells good. Still heating. Added the cinnamon and caraway seeds.5 stars
