This red cabbage apple skillet recipe is super easy and full of flavor!

Red Cabbage Apple Skillet - The Southern Lady Cooks

We love easy skillet dishes and this one is just that. The flavors go together perfectly. Apples, bacon, cabbage…what’s not to love? This dish takes no time to put together and looks very pretty on the table. This is a great side dish for any holiday but easy enough for a weeknight dinner.

Red Cabbage Apple Skillet

3 bacon strips, chopped

1 medium green apple, chopped

1/2 cup of white onion, chopped

4 cups of red cabbage, chopped

1/2 cup of water

1/4 cup of lime juice

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

In a skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp then remove with a slotted spoon. Place bacon on paper towels to drain grease. Add apple and onion to the skillet with the bacon drippings and saute till tender. Stir in remaining ingredients (minus the bacon) and bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer. Cook until cabbage is to a desired consistency. We like our cabbage with a little bit of crisp so we cook it for about 15 minutes. Once done, stir in chopped bacon and serve. Makes 6 servings.
