How to Make Pumpkin Butter

Pumpkin butter is a wonderful spread for your muffins, biscuits and breads.  If you like pumpkin, you will love this butter.  It is so easy to make and keeps for several weeks in the refrigerator.  You can easily double or triple the recipe. Make some for a neighbor or family member for a great homemade gift they will enjoy.  We love making anything at home rather than buying it in the store because it contains no additives.

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Pumpkin Butter:



Ground cinnamon

Ground nutmeg

100% pure pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix, I use the canned pumpkin)

Vanilla extract

pinch salt (I only add salt if using unsalted butter)

Recipe Notes: Store this butter in the refrigerator.

  • 1 stick butter or 8 tablespoons or 1/2 cup softened
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup 100% pumpkin not the pumpkin pie mix
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch salt I only add salt if using unsalted butter


  • Mix all ingredients with a mixer until smooth. Store in refrigerator. Makes about 1 cup.
