HAMBURGER CABBAGE CHOWDER
Hamburger cabbage chowder is comfort food at its best. A hearty soup that is easy to make and you could add what you like to this soup. Serve it with my recipe for seasoned oyster crackers to friends and family and they will keep coming back for more. We love cabbage in anything and this soup is a favorite. Make this for a quick weeknight meal on a busy day. Hamburger cabbage chowder keeps well in the fridge for several days. You could cut recipe in half or double it depending on your needs.
Hamburger cabbage chowder is a hearty, comfort food soup.
2 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
1 cup water
3 cups chopped cabbage
2 large carrots, scraped and chopped
1 cup chopped celery
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
few drops hot sauce or pinch of cayenne (optional)
1 pound hamburger
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Combine chicken broth, water, cabbage, carrots, celery, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and hot sauce in a soup pot on top of the stove. Bring to a boil and turn to simmer. Brown the hamburger along with the onion in a separate skillet and drain. Add to vegetables. Add milk and cook until carrots, celery and cabbage gets tender. This take about 20 to 25 minutes. In the last few minutes of cooking, add the cheese and let melt into the soup. Makes about 8 servings. Enjoy!
