- 2 14.5 ounce cans chicken broth
- 1 cup water
- 3 cups chopped cabbage
- 2 large carrots scraped and chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- few drops hot sauce or pinch of cayenne optional
- 1 pound hamburger
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Combine chicken broth, water, cabbage, carrots, celery, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and hot sauce in a soup pot on top of the stove. Bring to a boil and turn to simmer.
Brown the hamburger along with the onion in a separate skillet and drain. Add to vegetables. Add milk and cook until carrots, celery and cabbage gets tender. This take about 20 to 25 minutes.
In the last few minutes of cooking, add the cheese and let melt into the soup.
