Heath bar cake is an oldie but goodie!
1 cup walnut halves, chopped
Bake cake following directions on box in 9×13 cake pan. Remove from oven and immediately pour eagle brand milk on hot cake and let soak in. (I poke holes in the cake with a fork before pouring milk over it.)
This is wonderful alone or with a scoop of ice cream.

Is this considered a poke cake? It seems somewhat different as you pour on the condensed milk and caramel while the cake is still hot. Poke cake is usually cooled before pouring anything on it. Also, the directions say to use a fork to make the holes but wouldn’t a straw or end of a wooden spoon work better as these are very thick toppings and they might not seep into the cake. As always, thanks for all the great recipes!
We have always made it the way we have it written. You can use a spoon if you like. I guess it’s considered a poke cake. It’s delicious!
Thank you for all the wonderful recipes! I do a lot of baking and cooking for my church and am always looking for some new recipes.
You’re welcome!
Looks very good. Could I use regular cream instead of cool whip..???
I think if you whipped it should work.
Thank you…I definitely would whip it…
Could use peCans instead of walnuts?
Yes, you could Windy.
My family loves this cake! I’m always asked to bring to it to any of our get togethers. I always top it off with a bag Heath Bar pieces I buy at the store.
Do you think I’d be able to make this with topping and all about 5 hours in advance and it will hold up. Would love to make it for a group but need it done in advance. Thanks so much, sound delicious.
Yes, I think you could Angela. You might want to refrigerate it once you make it. It is great cold, too.
OMGoodness! This cake is delectable! Ugh! It’s soooooo gooood!! I made this today and the Strawberry Pie last night. The Strawberry Pie was light, fresh, and amazing too — Its dangerously goooood! Man, at this rate – I better chill out with baking for a little bit, in order to give us all a chance to WORK OFF these calories! LOL! 🙂 Thanks for sharing these recipes..
Looks like that would be easy enough for a single guy like myself.
Hi Donald, I am sure you could bake this cake with no problems. Good luck and let me know how it turns out and how you like it.
