SOUR CREAM SPICE CAKE WITH SOUR CREAM FROSTING

This Sour Cream Spice Cake is so good. If you have ever wondered what to do with left over sour cream, this cake with sour cream in the cake and sour frosting will solve your problem plus the cake is delicious.  Wonderful cake for any occasion or event.  Check out the most popular cake recipes on our site.

Sour cream spice cake is good in the fall of the year or anytime you want a dessert for friends and family.

1 cup white granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened or 8 tablespoons or 1 stick

3 eggs

1 cup sour cream

2 cups all purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup milk

1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray 2 round cake pans or one bundt pan with cooking spray.   Cream sugar and butter till fluffy.  Beat in eggs and sour cream. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice in another bowl.  Mix into egg and sugar with mixer. Add vanilla extract and milk and continue mixing.   Fold in nuts.  Bake 35 to 40 minutes.  Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans.

Sour Cream Frosting

3 1/2 to 4 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1/3 cup sour cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract, (optional)

Beat all ingredients together until reach spreading consistency.  Spread between layers and over cake.

Note:  You could also make this cake in a 9 x 13 cake pan.

  1. Could I make a cream cheese frosting instead of a sour cream??

      Of course, you can put whatever frosting you want on it.

  2. I like to know what ingredients are suppose to go in to make it a darker, richer color of cake. Mine came out very pale in contrast to the pictures. Also since I followed the complete recipe it came out rather dry. Not moist at all. Baked at 350 degrees for less time than was called for.
    Any suggestions??

      The ingredients we listed in this recipe are the ingredients that are used to make this cake. As for how dark it comes out, I’ve never given it any thought. You can see from the photos how ours looks. Cooking a cake too long or over mixing the cake batter can cause a cake to be dry. All ovens vary, so you should always watch your cake to know when it is done. I hope this helps you.

    I tried to recipe with the extra stick of butter in it it turned out really good but I feel like it should be a little bit more spices and I’m going to add some ground clove in it and the raisins was very tasty in there I I still love the recipe thank you

    I was thinking about adding to stick of butter and some raisins I was wondering will that mess up your recipe because your recipe sounds very nice I like the ingredients that are in them other recipes I’ve seen they want to have cloves and I don’t like that your recipe sounds very tasty
