EASY BREADSTICKS AND ROLLS
Easy breadsticks and rolls is a very versatile recipe.
These easy breadsticks and rolls are so great to make even if you are not someone that likes to use yeast. You can make all breadsticks or all rolls or some of each. They keep well and can be reheated in the oven or microwave. You can freeze them just like most breads. The breadsticks are wonderful with any meal and the rolls are great for making breakfast sandwiches or any sandwich or just slather them with butter while hot and serve with a meal. This is a great recipe to try if you are not familiar with making yeast breads. You might also like our recipe for pan yeast rolls made with grits.
Ingredients for easy breadsticks and rolls:
1 1/4 cups warm water
1 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable, Canola or olive oil
Stir yeast into warm water in a small bowl using a spoon. Whisk together flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Pour in the dissolved yeast along with the oil and mix with a spoon until ingredients are wet and form a ball. Grease another large bowl with some cooking oil, add the dough and turn to make sure both sides of the dough is oiled. You can even sprinkle a little oil on your hands and pat it on the dough ball. Cover the bowl with your dough and put in warm place to rise for 2 hours. I just use a clean dish towel spread over the bowl and put it on my stove top with the stove light on for 2 hours to rise. Don’t light the stove with the dough on top. Once the dough rises, punch it down with your fist, remove from bowl. Cut in half with a knife and pat each piece out into a rectangle about 7 inches long. Cut 6 strips for the breadsticks and using a 3 inch cutter, cut out six rolls. Grease a baking pan and add breadsticks and rolls to pan. Cover again and let rise for another hour. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until breadsticks and rolls are brown on top. Brush on topping below while bread is still hot. You can put under broiler for 1 minute after brushing on topping if you want to do so. This makes 6 breadsticks and 6 rolls. Enjoy!
Topping:
3 tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch salt (optional)
Combine ingredients and melt in microwave or on stove top. Brush on hot bread.
