Baked Meatballs - TSLCI think everyone likes meatballs!  These meatballs can be frozen or used for spaghetti or appetizers and they are baked not fried.

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 egg
1 cup quick cooking oats, uncooked
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 onion, grated
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic or one clove of garlic, chopped
In  a large bowl combine all ingredients.  I mix it with my hands and roll into meatballs the size you like.  Spray a cookie sheet or flat pan with cooking spray.  Place meatballs about one inch apart and cook in preheated 400 degree oven 25 to 30 minutes.  Makes about 25 regular sized meatballs or 35 small ones.
Once cooked add a jar or can of your favorite spaghetti sauce or make your own sauce.  Serve over spagetti.
You can also make these smaller and once cooked put in crockpot with 1 cup grape jelly and 1 1/2 cups chili sauce.  Cook on low for about 5 hours and makes a great appetizer to serve at parties.
These freeze well, too. Just be sure they are completely cooled before freezing and place in airtight container.   Enjoy!

  1. Love your recipes

  2. What does the grape jelly and the chili sauce do? Sounds strange, but it’s probably good. Lol!

  3. I will have to try this. Sounds good and I look forward to your page everyday.

  4. Katie Black says:

Have you ever tried pressure canning them? I am preparing to make a huge batch of zucchini spaghetti sauce next week. And this sounds like a good variation!

  5. Making this today! Can I use Old fashioned oats, since I already have those? Thanks 🙂

  6. Put the meatballs in the microwave and cook on Med-high (70%) for about 14 minutes. Be sure to put in a shallow dish and cover with plastic wrap. Much cooler for the house than heating the oven.

  7. Going to make this today! Thank you 🙂

  8. My husband and I really love the baked meatballs.. Instead of spaghetti sauce we put the jar gray and put them in..They are great like this too.. Thanks for the recipe… Love all your recipes…

  9. If you freeze them, I guess just thaw out & add to your sauce till heated through?

I really appreciate The Southern Lady Cooks recipes! Your recipes are wonderful!!

  11. What is the grape jelly and chili sauce recipe? What kind of chili sauce do you mean?? I’m interested 🙂

    • Hi Tiffany, It is Heinz chili sauce that comes in a bottle at the grocery. I think it is near the Worcestershire sauce and just grape jelly. Mix together and heat in crockpot or on top of stove, pour over meatballs. If you use crockpot, heat in crockpot, add meatballs and keep warm in crockpot for appetizers. I make the meatballs smaller when I use them for appetizers.

      • I make the grape jelly meatballs a lot, everyone loves them, great for party snacks at a much smaller size. You will be amazed at the taste!!!

    • Great Appetizer. I make this recipe all the time for get togethers. Also good on sausage slices or lil smokies. When making with sausage or l.s., I use apple jelly instead of grape.

  13. I haven’t made meatballs in ages so I’m going to add it to the menu for this week. Making extra and freezing them is an excellent idea too for spaghetti day!
