HOW TO MAKE SELF-RISING CORNMEAL MIX

Make your own self-rising cornmeal mix is an easy way to substitute the ingredients below if you don’t have self-rising cornmeal on hand or cannot find it in your area. So many of you have told me you cannot find self-rising cornmeal mix where you live and a lot of recipes call for this ingredient. I can usually find it here at Kroger or Walmart but it may not be sold in some parts of the country. I have used this tip many times in a pinch and these are ingredients most people usually have in their pantry. Combine the following ingredients to make one cup of self-rising cornmeal:
3/4 cup regular cornmeal
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon granulated salt
You can always make more and store in an air-tight container for use in recipes.

I’m gluten free, so I’m wondering if you’ve made this with AP gluten free flour or with almond flour in place of the AP flour?
I have never tried it, but it may work great!
Where are your recipes for your fried cornbread and cornbread muffins? I couldn’t find them but would love to make them!

I dont have baking powder will this still work?
No, I don’t think it will, without the baking powder, Jen.
I forgot that step by accident and it felt something was missing. Next day I remade it with the baking powder and the Hot water fried cornbread I made was perfect with the mix was perfect.

Need a recipe for “Cornbread” using your recipe for self-rising cornmeal.
