ELVIS PRESLEY’S FAVORITE SANDWICH
Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich was peanut butter and banana!
If you remember poodle skirts, rock n roll or saddle shoes, you were probably a big fan of Elvis Presley. I loved Elvis and remember the first time he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in September of 1956. My girls, Anne Parker and Leigh Harper don’t remember him since they were born the year he died but they know all about his music and movies. Elvis died on August 16, 1977. Elvis also had a twin that died at birth. His name was Jesse Garon Presley and they were identical. So, they would have been Elvis Aron and Jesse Garon Presley. Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich was peanut butter and banana and he even liked it with bacon, too. I make this sandwich all the time. It is one of my very favorites. I like it for breakfast with coffee or as a snack with milk. The recipe below was printed in his cookbook, Are You Hungry Tonight, Elvis’ Favorite Recipes. This sandwich has everything this Southern lady loves and Elvis was certainly a Southern boy who stole everyone’s heart. You might also like our ham, Swiss, bacon with apple sandwich.
Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich is delicious and I think you will love it!
1 banana
2 slices bread
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons butter
The recipe states this makes one sandwich but if you use a large banana and the 3 tablespoons of peanut butter, it makes 2 or 3 sandwiches for me. I don’t like it really thick. You have to mash the banana with the peanut butter. We like the extra crunchy peanut butter. I used to just slice the banana when I made a peanut butter and banana sandwich but it is much better mashed. Spread the mixture on two slices of bread. Elvis probably used white bread but I love it on honey wheat bread. Add the butter to a grill or skillet and brown sandwich on both sides. I read that Elvis liked bacon on his sandwich at times and, believe me, it is wonderful with bacon, too. Enjoy!
