This recipe for Slow Cooker Round Steak with Peppers and Onions is one I have made for many years and is the perfect comfort food.

Round Steak with Peppers and Onions TSLC (2)It always goes over big with both friends and family. I like to make it in the slow cooker but see below for making it on top of the stove in a skillet.

Slow Cooker Round Steak with Peppers and Onions

1 (2 to 3 lb.) round steak, cut in serving size pieces
1/2 to 1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano or Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup oil (I use Canola Oil)
1 large onion, cut in rings
2 green peppers, cut in rings (can use red or orange, too. I use all three)
2  (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
 Cut round stead in serving size pieces.  Roll in flour that has been seasoned with the pepper, salt, oregano and garlic powder.  Brown in oil on each side.  You don’t completely cook the meat just brown it good.  Place browned meat in slow cooker and put the rest of the ingredients on top of the meat.  Cook on high for 4 hours or low for about 6 hours. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
This is wonderful served over mashed potatoes!  Can also be served over rice or pasta. You could make this in a skillet on top of the stove, too. Just brown the steak, add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer until steak is tender.  Enjoy.

  3. Does the round steak get nice and tender? I don’t like tough round steak or any tough meat for that matter.

      The longer you cook any meat in the crock pot the more tender it will be. Sometimes, it depends on the meat itself. You can always try it at the time the recipe says and if it is not tender enough for you, cook it longer.

      • Thanks! I’ve been cooking a meal for a group of senior citizens 2 or 3 times a month and always on the lookout for good, meaty crocpot entrees and casseroles. Think I’ll give this one a try.

  6. Same recipe I used for moose steak, minus the peppers…..not available in the bush, and I don’t like them. I might put onion soup mix also.

      Onion soup mix is good on round steak and I’m sure moose steak. Years ago I made that a lot. Put the steak on a large piece of aluminum foil, sprinkle the onion soup mix all over it, close up the foil, and cook in 350 degree oven for about an hour. Makes it tender and very tasty.
