Freeze butter using this method after stocking up when on sale at the supermarket.
Easy method to freeze butter for maximum quality.
Did you ever wonder how to freeze butter? Butter is one thing I cannot do without since I love baking and cooking. I always stock up when I find a sale. It is wonderful to have butter on hand for holiday cooking and you can freeze butter with very little time and effort.
Butter will last several weeks in the refrigerator but you can freeze butter and it keeps for up to a year. The important thing when freezing or just keeping butter in the refrigerator is to make sure it does not absorb food odors. The photos below will show you how I freeze butter with great results. You just want to make sure it is either in an airtight container or freezer bag. Leave the original wrapping on the sticks and wrap with foil. Then, I place the sticks back in the original box and put the box in a freezer bag because I like having the box to check the date I bought the butter. You don’t have to freeze it in the box but can just freeze the butter in the foil and then a freezer bag. You could just label the bag with the date frozen and the date you bought the butter. The important thing is to make sure it is airtight.
To thaw frozen butter, take out what you need and thaw in the refrigerator overnight or you can melt on the stove or in the microwave if a recipe calls for melted butter. I soften butter in the microwave, too.

I have been grating a stick of frozen butter to make the Southern Living recipe of buttermilk biscuits–such wonderful layers with this one. Anyway I am glad to know I better be wrapping it in foil or bagging it up too. THX for the hint
