You just want to make sure it is either in an airtight container or freezer bag.

Leave the original wrapping on the sticks and wrap with foil.

Then, I place the sticks back in the original box and put the box in a freezer bag because I like having the box to check the date I bought the butter.

You don't have to freeze it in the box but can just freeze the butter in the foil and then a freezer bag.

You could just label the bag with the date frozen and the date you bought the butter.

The important thing is to make sure it is airtight.
