My family loves this coleslaw.  My twins actually put coleslaw on their hamburgers and brats!

1 (14 ounce bag) precut cabbage or could shred up a half head of cabbage
1 small green pepper, chopped or grated
1 small onion, chopped or grated
1 medium carrot, shredded
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
Put shredded cabbage in large bowl.  Add remaining ingredients and mayo.  Mix well.  Chill and serve. Makes about 8 servings.  Enjoy!

  1. My recipe is very similar, but I add 2-3 T red wine vinegar and 2-3 T sugar. Keep the ratio of vinegar to sugar the same. I also sometimes finely chop some celery into the slaw and delete the celery salt. I love the crunch it adds.

  2. Do you have a recipes with just vinegar? I like this ne but my family likes the vinegar..only!

  3. This is almost like my mom’s recipe – except she always added a squeeze of 1/2 a lemon to the mayo before mixing it in. I do the same, and I add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Thanks for posting; I’m wanting some right now.

  5. this is the same recipe I have always used. Love this on my hotdogs and hamburgers.

  9. That’s pretty much the same as mine. I use a little Marzettis Slaw Dressing mixed with the Hellman’s. I love coleslaw, but not the soupy stuff that you often get with a fish fry.
