Ingredients

  • 10 medium sized apples peeled and cored, cut up in pieces (I used Red Delicious for this one but you could use about any kind of apple)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  • Mix together water, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom and honey with a wire whisk.
  • Pour over apples.
  • Cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or high 4 hours.

Notes

Will keep at least two weeks or longer in the fridge.
Makes about 1 1/2 quarts.
You can mash up the apples in the cooked sauce if you want to make it smoother. We like it chunky and I like the chunky better for using in recipes.
