1 to 1 1/2poundsof lean beefchuck or stew meat cut in bite-sized pieces

18 ounce can tomato sauce
114.5 ounce can beef broth
1/2cupwater
1/2teaspoonblack pepper
1/2teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonminced garlic
1/2teaspoonsmoked paprika
1/2teaspoonchili powder
Instructions
Brown the stew meat, onions and celery in the butter or oil in a skillet on top of the stove. Add to crock pot or slow cooker along with carrots, cabbage and potatoes. In a bowl whisk together the tomato sauce, beef broth, water, black pepper, salt, minced garlic, paprika and chili powder. Pour over ingredients in crock pot.
I make this in a 3 quart crock pot. Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours or until all vegetables are well cooked. Makes about 3 quarts of stew or 6 to 8 servings.
