Tar Heel Pie

This Tar Heel Pie is so easy to make and a delicious addition to any holiday gathering. It is described as a brownie in a pie shell and it's one you will make over and over.

Ingredients

  • 1 deep dish pie shell
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips divided
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecans chopped
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut

Instructions

  • Melt butter in microwave and pour over 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
  • In a bowl whisk together the flour and both the white and brown sugar. Pour in the melted chocolate chips. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. Stir to mix.
  • Add chopped pecans, coconut and the rest of the chocolate chips.
  • Pour into uncooked pie shell. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Do not overcook. Pie is best if a little undercooked.
