Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce I use chunky applesauce in this recipe
  • 1 stick or 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons butter or margarine softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk could use regular milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup craisins could use raisins and can add more if wanted
  • 1/2 to 1 cup nuts I use walnuts

Powdered Sugar Glaze

  • 1 cup white powdered sugar
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk I use 2%
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and applesauce. Mix with mixer.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and salt in a bowl. Mix well with wire whisk and add to liquid ingredients mixing together with mixer. Fold in craisins and nuts with a spoon.  Pour batter into a 9 x 5 bread pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. (I sprinkle a little brown sugar and a few nuts on top just to give it a little crunch). Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 55-60 minutes checking for doneness as ovens vary. Let cool about 10 minutes before removing from pan.

Powdered Sugar Glaze Directions

  • Put sugar in a bowl and whisk in milk and vanilla extract until mixture is smooth.
