Ingredients
1poundground Italian sausage
2clovesof garlicpeeled and smashed or chopped
1medium onionpeeled and chopped
115 ounce can pinto beans, do not drain
110 ounce package frozen lima beans
115 ounce can great northern beans
1/2cupbrown sugar
18 ounce can tomato sauce
2teaspoonsyellow mustard
1teaspoonsalt
1/2teaspoonblack pepper
1teaspoondried oregano
2teaspoonsfresh chopped basil or 1 teaspoon dried
1/2teaspoonground thyme
1/2teaspoonred pepper or cayenneoptional
Instructions
Brown the Italian sausage, the two cloves of garlic and the chopped onion in a skillet on top of the stove. Remove and drain, if needed.
Combine the tomato sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, thyme and cayenne and stir together. Put the sausage mixture and all the beans in the crock pot (or a baking dish if you plan to cook these in the oven). Stir in the tomato sauce and spices.
Cook in crock pot for 4 to 5 hours on low or 2 to 3 hours on high. If baking in the oven, bake at 375 for about 45 minutes.
