Cheesy Onion Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seed
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons butter or margarine melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 5 slices bacon cooked crisp and crumbled, optional
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, poppy seeds, parsley flakes and garlic powder
  • In a smaller bowl whisk together buttermilk, melted butter and eggs. Add to dough mixture.
  • Fold in crumbled bacon, shredded cheese and onion. Mix well with a spoon. Spray a 9 x 4 inch bread pan with cooking spray. Add bread dough and bake in preheated 350 degree oven 45 to 50 minutes. Let cool in pan for about 10 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
