Butterscotch Sauce

This sauce is wonderful on just about any dessert!

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 stick butter or 4 tablespoons
  • 2 tablespoons cream or evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  • Combine sugar and flour in a pan on top of the stove.  Add boiling water and salt.  Whisk ingredients together and bring to a boil for about 5 minutes or until desired thickness.  Stir constantly. Remove from heat, add butter, milk and vanilla extract. Stir to melt butter.
