Tartar SauceThis is a very simple recipe and so easy to make.  We love this tartar sauce and I keep it in the refrigerator in summer for fish sandwiches and whenever we decide to fry fish.  It is great to make up for a fish fry and your can double or triple this tartar suce recipe or make as much as you need.  It keeps for weeks refrigerated. Why pay for bottled tartar sauce when making your own is so easy.

1 cup mayonnaise (can use Miracle Whip)

2 to 3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish, drained

1 to 2 tablespoons minced onion

1 tablespoon lemon juice, (optional) can use fresh or bottled

1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed

1/8 teaspoon black pepper or to taste

1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste

Mix all ingredients together using a whisk or spoon. Refrigerate a couple hours before serving or overnight.

Makes 1 cup.

  1. I was glad to see the instructions included waiting before serving. The extra time in the refrigerator allows the onion to meld with all the flavors.

    I prefer to use dill pickle relish & liquid from dill pickles instead of lemon juice. I like things to be quite dill-y.
