Cheesy Onion Bread with Bacon - TSLC

Onion bread is wonderful with most any soup or with a meal.   We love the onion taste and the cheese just makes it that much better. A great easy bread to make any time and impress your family and friends.  Slather with butter for a delicious treat.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon poppy seed
1 teaspoon parsley flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2 eggs
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
5 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled, optional
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, poppy seeds, parsley flakes and garlic powder.  In a smaller bowl whisk together buttermilk,  melted butter and eggs. Add to dough mixture.  Fold in crumbled bacon, shredded cheese and onion.  Mix well with a spoon.   Spray a 9 x 4 inch bread pan with cooking spray.  Add bread dough and bake in preheated 350 degree oven 45 to 50 minutes.  Let cool in pan for about 10 minutes.  Makes 1 loaf.  Enjoy!
