Southerners love cobbler and will try it many different ways. This apple cobbler makes a great dessert and another way to use up apples.
8 small or 6 large apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks 1 cup water 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 2 tablespoons minute tapioca 1 teaspoon vanilla Place apples in skillet and cover with remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, reduce heat and simmer 5 to 10 minutes. Pour into a sprayed 9 inch square dish.
TOPPING 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 3 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted 1 egg About 5 tablespoons milk Mix topping ingredients in a bowl and beat till smooth with a whisk. Drop over apples by spoonfuls and spread. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 20 – 25 minutes until topping is brown. Makes 6 to 8 servings. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream on top. Enjoy! Note: I have added a cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese to this recipe by spreading over the apples before adding the dough on top. can it be baked in 9×13 pan
What is minute tapioca
It is just a thickener. You can buy it in the grocery here.
I will certainly make this when I get home from camping where the oven is easier to get to!!!!! Looks delicious……
Could you use dried apples?
just made it itis awesome usedmy freash apples from my trees
Can I use corn starch instead of tapioca?
Yes, you could use cornstarch.
My dad would wit for the apple cobbler to come out of the oven and have a big slice of sharp cheddar to put on top of it. I love the cheese with mine, never thought of baking it in it.
i tried this today, without the cheese it was so good! first cobbler i ever made, will definitely make again. thanks!
I am gping to try your apple cobbler.
Oh my, that looks so good! My mouth is watering, lol
That’s just awesome looking. I don’t even need ice cream, just a fork. Make it a spoon.
