HOW TO COOK BACON IN THE OVEN

Bacon is my favorite breakfast food!  Are you a bacon lover, too?  Cooking bacon in the oven is quick and simple with less mess.  I think the bacon gets crispier and does not shrink as bad as cooking on top of the stove.  Bacon drippings are always kept at my house to use in seasoning vegetables or my cornbread muffins.

Spread the uncooked bacon on a cooking sheet or in any baking dish. You can make however many slices of bacon you want.  Here is a little tip I use but this is not necessary.  I sprinkle about 1/2 cup flour on a dish or paper plate and flour my bacon before cooking in the oven.  It seems to me it makes the bacon taste better and it does not curl up.  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake bacon for about 10 minutes on each side.  Ovens vary so it may take more or less time.  You will be able to see when the bacon is cooked to your specifications.  Remove and drain on paper towels. Save or discard the bacon drippings.  Enjoy!

    I bake the strips in my oven, toaster oven or the microwave. I watch carefully so they don’t burn. I like to sprinkle a little cinnamon/sugar or maple syrup on top, before baking. I don’t eat bacon too often, & never re-use the saturated fat drippings. I like crisp bacon in salads, or with a scrambled egg omelet, with French toast or a small potato pancake, topped with sugar-free maple or blueberry syrup.   7. How long can you keep bacon grease in the refrigerator?

      I have kept it for a couple weeks Linda. It goes rancid after a while. I cook with it a lot so it doesn’t last long at my house.

  8. I would love to try this, but just have this mental image of grease popping all over the inside of the oven. I know you said less mess, but could you give me a little more to go on. Thank you. I LOVE bacon!

    We’ve always used the grease in our cornbread too. After heating it, have always poured it into the batter, stirred in quickly, and then poured into skillet, muffin pans, etc.

      I don’t have a problem if you bake it on 350 degrees. You need to watch it though so it doesn’t burn. You could put it in a deep baking dish if you think it will pop grease but mine doesn’t. I make it on a regular baking pan or cookie sheet with no problem. Ovens vary, if you see it popping grease turn it down. It may take longer to cook though.
