Baking Biscuits Here are some handy biscuit tips to help you bake the best homemade biscuits for your family and friends.  You will be able to “share” these by looking under the photo and clicking on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest to share with your friends. For taller, lighter and flakier biscuits, cut straight down with the cutter.  Twisting makes biscuits uneven.

For crusty edges arrange 1 inch apart, for softer edges place close together.

Knead biscuit dough as little as possible and get as many biscuits as possible from first cutting.

Place uncooked biscuits upside down on baking sheet from the way you cut them. Biscuits will be more uniform.

Biscuit dough should have some wetness.

Biscuits should be cooked immediately after cutting.

Using butter instead of shortening in your dough will add more flavor but shortening will make a more tender biscuit.

For a nice brown top on your biscuits brush with butter or milk before baking.

Cooked biscuits can be frozen for up to 3 months and will keep at room temperature for 3 days.

    we always made biscuits with lard if not used crisco

  2. Can you milk instead of butter milk I never uy buttermilk so never have it on hand

      Yes, you can use regular milk. If you look under tips at the top of any page on this website there is a tip there for how to make your own for recipes without buying a lot at one time. You can make just a cup.
