This post is not about food! So, if you are only interested in food, don’t read any further. My name is Judy. This post is ABOUT ME! I am the cook behind the blog and Facebook page, The Southern Lady Cooks. There is a green tab at the top of the blog where the recipes are posted that says, “About the Cook“, you can read more about me there, too. I don’t think there is a day that goes by that someone doesn’t ask me if I am Paula Deen. I want to clear that up right now. No, I am not Paula Deen. Don’t misunderstand me, I love Paula Deen and I don’t even know the lady. Some people tell me they think I am her in disquise so I can get on the page whenever I want and no one will know it is her. I have been writing this blog since 2008 and the Facebook page has been online since 2010. Yes, I am a Southern cook and love the laid-back Southern ways, food, hospitality, family values and all those things that make up being Southern. I live in Kentucky where I was born and raised. My mother and mother-in-law inspired me to be a Southern country cook. Read “How I learned to Cook”.
I retired from a job in state government where I worked for the state of Kentucky for 27 1/2 years before retiring. The blog and Facebook page keeps me busy in my senior years along with my family and friends. I love to garden and raise a few vegetables in my back yard each year. I mow my own grass with a push mower (I love the exercise) and my yard is almost an acre. I stay busy!
Many of you have asked me if I am a “big” person, a “fleshy” person, an “obese” person and if I am fat. Everyone seems to think if you cook like a Southerner and use butter and bacon grease, you have to be a “big” person. I eat everything I cook! I love sweets, grease, bread, bacon and all fattening foods. I think the secret is “everything in moderation”. I don’t eat a lot of anything. My health is good. My blood pressure is perfect every time they check it. I am not diabetic. I don’t take any kind of medicine at all and I love life. I have a wonderful family that I adore.
The Southern Lady Cooks Facebook page and this blog keeps me busy concocting new recipes, typing them up and posting for you to check out. I appreciate each and every person on this site and enjoy hearing from you in comments and on Facebook. I work very hard to try to bring you good down-home cooking and Southern dishes you will enjoy. You all make my day.
I read an article the other day about photography. It said if you are posing for a photo you should never stand looking straight forward at the camera and you should not put your arms straight down at your sides. The article said this would make you look larger in the photo and that is why the stars always strike a pose on the red carpet. Saturday, I was on my way out the door to the grocery to pick up some last-minute items for Labor Day dressed in my usual attire, sloppy jeans and a shirt, and remembered I was writing this post for you. My friend took this picture striking a pose for you just like the article said. I thought it was hilarious! So, I am posting for you anyway and you can see I am a WYSIWYG! (What you see is what you get!) Now you have the full picture and you can judge for yourself. No Paul Deen here, just a Southern person that likes to cook and enjoys my interaction with y”all and my retirement. Guess I might as well tell you now, I have a birthday coming up in September and I will be 71 years young. Just in case that was going to be your next question!!!
Thank you all so much for being a part of my site and my life. I love you all!
