Sour Cream Banana Bread - CopyThis is my favorite banana bread recipe.

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup regular flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup regular sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup sour cream
3 medium bananas, mashed

4 Tbs. soft butter or margarine
2 Tbs. whole wheat flour
4 Tbs.quick-cooking oats, uncooked
2 Tbs. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cup broken walnut pieces (optional)

Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and sugar in a large bowl. Add eggs, oil, sour cream and bananas and mix just until all ingredients are wet. Pour into two greased or sprayed loaf pans. In another bowl, combine the topping ingredients and mix together. Spread this on top of the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Makes two loaves.

This is wonderful served with butter and a hot cup of coffee in the mornings or just as a snack anytime.  Enjoy!

Here is another good banana bread recipe for Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. If you like chocolate and bananas, you will love this one!  One more recipe for Blueberry Banana Bread. The blueberries make this one yummy as well.  Try them all and pick your favorite!

  1. Jennifer @ Mother Thyme says:

I have some bananas that I need to use up and this looks like the perfect recipe to use them with. I bet the sour cream makes this so moist and delicious!

  2. Katherine would love this one. Sour cream just does such wonders for dough.

  3. I have a very similar recipe in my cookbook, but it doesn’t have the topping. LOVE that addition. Looks wonderfully inviting!

  4. Sounds good except I think I’ll add nuts in the bread batter too. I like the falling snow on your website!

  5. I love banana bread, but I’ve never had it with a topping before! I bet that is delicious! I love muffins with that crumble topping, yum yum!
