This is an easy recipe. Just throw all the ingredients in the crockpot and in a few hours you have a great way to serve chicken!
2 or 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (could use legs or thighs or a whole chicken)
1 regular sized can whole cranberry sauce
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons quick cooking tapioca (Optional)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Combine all the ingredients, mix well, pour over chicken, cook for 4 hours on high or 6 to 8 hours on low. Spoon sauce over chicken before serving.
Enjoy!

I love these crockpot recipes that you can just fix and leave—and the house always smells so good! This looks easy and delicious, Judy. Thank you!
Sounds delicious! …but my family won’t wait until done!
I can’t manage to be a slow cooker.
do you work outside your home?? i started things in the morning before i left (or when i came home for lunch) so it would be ready for dinner
This was DELICIOUS! Next time I will use a crock pot liner though because the sauce was hard to clean out of the crock pot.
Hi Sheree! Glad you liked the recipe. The liner is a good idea or you could just spray with cooking spray, too. Have a great New Years.
I spray inside the crockpot with pam or use vegetable cooking oil before you add the ingredients!
Great idea, Janice. Thanks for the tip.
Wow, this looks absolutely delicious. Definitely my kind of recipe: put in a slow cooker and come back to it after a day of work!
I will definitely try this next week after we’ve done the weekly shop!
Hi Alex, Thanks for coming by. I hope you enjoy the recipe. Judy
[...] Cranberry Chicken [...]
I made this for my family tonight. It was DELICIOUS. I can’t wait to try more recipes from your blog. Sooooo yummy.
This looks so delicious and I love using crockpot because all you need to do is dump everything in and you’re able to have a yummy meal right after work or the next day when you wake up!
PS: I think I’ll need to invest in a bigger one now as both my girls are grown up. That small mini crockpot I have was to cook baby porridge for my girls when they were able to have solid foods.
Have a great weekend!
I could not live without my crockpots! I have five. I use them at Thanksgiving and Christmas to keep stuff warm and also to cook in. Love my crockpots!
Gosh! FIVE crockpots!? That’s really alot (to me)! But I love your idea using all your crockpots to keep your food warm during these occasions.
I too could not live without my crockpots and liners. The liners are a real time saver. Although I live alone 1 crock is not enough once the cookin’ mood hits. So glad to have found your wonderful recipes with lots of new ideas.
I just love my crockpot… this looks like such a quick recipe too. It’s 7:30 a.m. here and I’m starving… this looks sooo delicious!!
This would be so perfect for Thanksgiving leftovers.
[...] adventure in slow cooking! This week it is Cranberry Chicken. I used this recipe. Note to self- I’m never buying Chicken thighs again. They are much too fatty. When I got [...]
This looks really good. Serve it with pecan rice and green beans….yum
Okay, now you’ve got me intrigued with this recipe…will pull out my new crockpot ( I got a nice fancy on last year that has the timers on in and adjusts the heat…compared to the 2 old hand-me-downs I use for get togethers)…Sound good…
I’ve been making a version of this recipe for many years. I make rice so I can put some of the sauce over that too.
Made this tonight. Served it with mashed potatoes and sugar snap peas. I used skinless thighs, because thats what I had. It was VERY GOOD. I can see this on pork chops too. Thanks for a great recipe.
I saw a similar recipe on another website recently. It was a turkey breast and no tapioca. It was very good! I will try it with chicken breasts very soon!
Dinner tonight! Can’t wait!
Any suggestions on something simple (other than potatoes) to serve as a side dish??
Jenni, Baked beans, potato salad, broccoli. Here’s a great corn salad recipe. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy this recipe. http://thesouthernladycooks.com/2011/08/26/corn-salad/
Can you use just cranberry sauce without the whole berries? or, do you need to use the kind with berries? Thanks, this looks like a wonderful recipe.
Hi Sandra, I use the kind with berries. I guess you could use the sauce without the berries but it might not be as thick a salad.
Thank-you so much, I am rounding up crock-pot recipes for my son who is single, working, and in school.
Going to make this for tonight’s dinner. I make my own whole cranberry sauce. Would you suggest a cup or a cup and a half?
Hi Lynda, I think a cup and a half would work for you. Hope you enjoy this.
Thanks Judy. I’ll let you know tomorrow how good this was, I have no doubts!!!
I have eaten this chicken recipe for more than 50 years, my mother made it for us as children. I raised my children on it growing up and they cooked it for their children. Recipe has been passed down to my grandchildren and their new family begginings. I just bake mine for an hour in the oven. My recipe call’s for fewer ingredients than yours. Very good quick meal I will agree
I’ll use this now cuz it sounds good – and also can see it being my new Thanksgiving favorite, since there’s only two of us and I only have the one day off:)
Judy, I did make this last night for dinner. I did the 4 hours on high, I didn’t change a thing and it was wonderful. The cup and a half of the homemade cranberry sauce was perfect. Sweet and savory. My husband is still talking about it this morning!! Since I like to ‘mix things up a bit’, the next time I’m going to try this with a pork tenderloin. Thanks again and keep up the good work!!!
So happy you all liked this recipe, Lynda, and thank you for letting me know.
Judy, I told you the next time I made this I would ‘mix it up’ a bit. Well, I did this with a pork tenderloin and it was AWESOME. The only thing I switched out was the pork for the chicken. Give it try sometime, and thanks again.
Sounds great Lynda! I will have to try it.
I made this for lunch today. I put it on before I went to church and it was ready when I got home. I served it with rice and a vegetable. It was delicious. Will definitely make again. It was even better at supper.
put it over white rice,, so so good
used boneless thighs.
