My Family's Favorite Meatloaf - CopyIn the South, we like meatloaf and we like it with mashed potatoes, green beans and cornbread muffins slathered with lots of butter. We also like to have some leftover to make meatloaf sandwiches the next day and a meatloaf sandwich is no good without lots of ketchup!
This is my family’s favorite meatloaf recipe. I hope you enjoy it.
1 1/2 lbs. hamburger
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
few drops hot sauce
1 cup quick cooking oats, uncooked
2/3 cup milk
Cooking spray
Combine all ingredients except ketchup and make into a loaf. Spray long casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove from oven and cover top of meatloaf with ketcup and put under broiler for 3 minutes. Enjoy.

  1. I made this meatloaf last night for supper and my husband raved about it! Later on that night he was in the kitchen making himself a meatloaf sandwich. I’m fairly new to your site but everything I have tried so far is wonderful!!!! I can’t wait until the holidays so I can try the divinity recipe and make sugar cookies with my granddaughters. Thank you, thank you for your wonderful recipes from a happy cook in Tennessee!

So happy you all enjoyed this recipe. Thank you so much for letting me know and happy to have you on the site.

  2. I’m going to combine this in a regular 9×12 pan tonight 🙂

  3. Judy,

I have been making meatloaf for my entire 33 years of marriage. My tip is to use your broiler pan. I put non-stick Reynold’s wrap in the bottom to catch the grease and I spray the top of the broiler pan with PAM and when the meatloaf cooks, the grease drips down onto the foil at the bottom and your meatloaf does not sit in the grease as it cooks. The PAM on the top pan makes clean up easier. I have shared this tip with many people and all have been pleased with the results.

  4. I absolutely LOVE meat loaf. I must have Connie cook this up for me. Yummmmm

Well, I now know what we’re having for dinner tonight. Just took the hamburger out of the freezer to thaw. Yummy! Thank you for sharing. This is a little different than we make, so it will be really fun to try. Gonna go with the smashed taters, green beans and cornmeal muffins too. The only thing is, we live in Washington State.

  6. There’s nothing better than meatloaf, it’s the perfect home cooked meal! There are so many meatloaf recipes out there though, I never know which are good ones. I am so glad you posted your family favorite! I bet it’s fantastic!
