• TODAY’S TIP. . . .

Store brown sugar in the freezer and it won’t clump up. Best to place it in a plastic baggie and removie it from the box.

CROCKPOT CABBAGE AND HAM

Crockpot Cabbage and Ham This is total comfort food and so easy to prepare in the crockpot.  Serve it with some fried cornbread or some cornbread muffins to make a meal. Make this with fresh garden vegetables for a real treat.

4 or 5 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 cup celery, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cups ham, cooked and cut into chunks
1/2 head cabbage, shredded or chopped
1 (1 pound) bag baby carrots (can use regular carrots)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 large bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth

Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker or crockpot. Cover with the chicken broth. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.  Remove bay leaf. Serve. Enjoy!

Note: I actually thought this was better the second day than the first!

  1. That looks just delicious!

  2. I’ve really got to start using my crock pot more…this sounds super easy.

  3. That would be so great with your biscuits or cornbread!

  4. I don’t know why I’m stand-offish about using my crockpot, but this recipe sounds good enough to make me want to over come that today! I love ham ; )

  5. Something like this used to be my Birthday dinner each year. I love the combination. I really like crockpot dishes. Balisha

  6. This looks so good I can’t wait to make it.

  7. I made this recipe of crockpot cabbage and ham, it was very good, I made it on a sunday, for Monday, but they could’nt wait, ate some Sunday night!!

  8. I agree…this sounds great and will definitely have this one night this week with cornbread!

  9. Made my first Southern Lady Cooks recipe today and it was GREAT! I added fresh green beans to it and a ham hock. I added the ham chunks closer to the end to keep them flavorful. My only suggestion is to add the potatoes a little later as well. They were just mush by the end of cooking time. Can’t wait to try another!

  10. We called this Boiled Dinner growing up – but I never tried doing it in the crock pot. This is going to be so much easier to make going forward – can put in before work and come home to deliciousness!

  11. Have been fixing this for years, and sometimes I use pork stew or boneless pork chops.
